The Dutch feature film Silent Ones by director Ricky Rijneke has been selected for the Cyprus International Film Festival.
Silent Ones is one of the 10 selected films competing for the Golden Aphrodite for Best First Feature Film.
The festival takes place from September 23 to 26 in the capital, Nicosia.

SILENT ONES was previously nominated for the Tiger Award Competition at the Rotterdam Film Festival. Since then, the film has been screened at many festivals around the world. To date, the film has been nominated twelve times and won eight international awards, including in New York, Berlin, Los Angeles, and Toronto.

The film tells the story of a young Hungarian woman (Orsi Tóth) who, after her younger brother Isti disappears, sets off aboard a cargo ship to fulfill her promise to him. A surreal trip balancing on the edge of life and death.

Silent Ones appeared in Dutch cinemas in December 2014 and was unanimously praised by the national press.
Het Volkskrant 2014 Year in Review included Silent Ones in the list of 'Best Dutch Films': “a dreamscape that is unprecedented in Dutch Cinema”.
The film will be released soon on DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD.
