Cannes Classics selected two Flemish films for its 2026 edition, with *Nostalgia for the Future* by Brecht Debackere included in the Documentaries about Cinema section and *Meeuwen sterven in de haven* (1955) by Rik Kuypers, Ivo Michiels, and Roland Verhavert finding a place within Restored Prints. Debackere's film, produced by Steven Dhoedt for Visualantics, portrays filmmaker Chris Marker through his archive and explores how images from the past shape our view of the future. The restored classic, which won the Grand Prix at Cannes in 1956, depicts a poetic post-war Antwerp in expressionistic black and white, starring Julien Schoenaerts.
